The Thirsty Gnome is a neighborhood bar and restaurant that was opened in October of 2023 by Laurie and Paul Gehrt. They wanted to create a space that feels like home, a place where memories are made and stories are shared.

Laurie is a veteran who served in the Kansas Air National Guard in Topeka from 1981 to 1987. Both Laurie and Paul are passionate about supporting veterans and their families, and they make sure that The Thirsty Gnome is a welcoming place for all.

Paul is a gardening king and his passion for growing fresh produce is evident in his delicious salsas and hot sauces. You can find Paul’s sauces on the menu at The Thirsty Gnome, where they are a popular choice for dipping, drizzling, and cooking.

Laurie and Paul are both active in their community. Laurie is a nurse by profession (although she has worked as a drink diva in the past) and works as the Editor-in-Chief for Elsevier's Nursing and Allied Health Practice, Patient Education Clinical Solutions department. Paul works in technical project management.

They currently reside in Excelsior Springs, Missouri with their 5 dogs.
